The Australian Mathematical Sciences Institute
(AMSI) is
a national consortium established through a grant from
the Victorian Government and funds from nearly thirty
AMSI
member institutions. The
International Centre
of Excellence for Education in Mathematics (ICE-EM) was
established by AMSI to strengthen education in mathematics
and its contemporary applications. In 2002 the Federal
Government announced funding which enabled AMSI to run a
program of summer courses for honours and postgraduate
students in the mathematical sciences. The first two
such programs were held in 2003 at the University of
Melbourne, and 2004 at the University of New
South Wales. Following on from these successes, AMSI and
ICE-EM ran a similar program in 2005 at
the Australian National University in Canberra.
ICE-EM is funded by the Australian Government through
the Department of Education, Science and Training.
