ICE-EM Scholarships for Asian and Latin American University Students and Early Career Academics

Up to 5 scholarships are available to postgraduate students or early career academics from Asian and Latin American Universities to participate in the Summer School.  The subsidies cover room and board (valued at approximately $AU1300) and a contribution of up to $AU1200 towards international and domestic travel, depending on home country.  International applicants pay the non-AMSI registration fee of $AU660 unless their university is a member of PRIMA (see below), in which case the registration fee is $AU132.

Applicants must be enrolled or employed full-time in a university in Asia or Latin America.  They should have English language skills equivalent to IELTS level 6.5, although level 7 is preferred for students seeking assessment.

Applicants should submit an Application/Registration form, but do not have to pay the registration fee until they know whether or not they have been awarded one of the scholarships.

In addition they should submit the following in any common format, such as PDF, postscript or text:

  • Undergraduate record (postgraduate students) or CV (early career academics)

  • Letter of support/recommendation from supervisor or head of department

  • Statement giving reasons for wishing to attend the ICE-EM/AMSI Summer School (up to one page)

  • Indication of English language level, such as TOEFL or IELTS scores

  • Cost of return air travel to Melbourne

First-round applications close on 1 December 2005, and successful and unsuccessful applicants will be notified by email shortly thereafter.

ICE-EM PRIMA Accommodation Subsidies

ICE-EM is offering 5 subsidies for accommodation for four weeks and 5 subsidies for accommodation for two weeks to postgraduate students enrolled full-time in universities that are members of the Pacific Rim Mathematical Association (PRIMA) to participate in the Summer School.  The subsidies cover the cost of room and board (valued at approximately $AU1300 for four weeks and $AU650 for two weeks)

Because of reciprocal relations amongst PRIMA institutions, PRIMA students pay the same registration fees as AMSI students - that is, $AU132.  PRIMA students who wish to attend, but who are not awarded one of the 10 accommodation subsidies, still pay the reduced registration fee of $AU132 rather than $AU660.

Applicants must be enrolled full-time in a PRIMA university.  Non-native English language speakers should have English language skills equivalent to IELTS level 6.5, although level 7 is preferred for students seeking assessment.

Applicants should submit an application/registration form, but do not have to pay the registration fee until they know whether or not they have been awarded one of the subsidies.

In addition they should submit the following in any common format, such as PDF, postscript or text:

  • Undergraduate record (honours students) or CV (Master's or PhD students)

  • Letter of support/recommendation from supervisor

  • Statement giving reasons for wishing to attend the ICE-EM/AMSI Summer School (up to one page)

  • For students from countries where the first language is other than English, an indication of English language ability level, such as TOEFL or IELTS scores

First-round applications close on 1 December 2005, and applicants will be notified by email shortly thereafter.
