MAP INTERPRETATION AND VISUALISATION EXERCISES

Maps are merely abstract representations on a flat sheet of paper of real geographic features. Contours will give some idea of the type of relief that can be found at a particular location.

Question 10.

Below are nine photographs of features which can be found on the topographic map. Each photo is labelled 1, 2, 3... 9. On the digital map, labels A, B, C etc. have been marked. Your task is to identify what lettered feature on the digital map corresponds to which photo.

Question 11.

Imagine that you are standing at the location marked X on the digital map looking East. Draw a landscape of what you might see, identifying geographical major features such as bluffs, scree slopes, hills, valleys, flood plains, roads buildings, etc.
