Research interests:
My research interests are primarily in the areas of algorithm
developments and innovative applications of satellite positioning and
tracking, and geodesy/surveying in general. The following areas/topics are of more specific interests.
GPS/GNSS and satellite navigation
- GNSS atmospheric studies for precise positioning; space weather
studies (e.g. ionosphere, solar activities etc.); space debris tracking
and collision avoidance warning; and weather, climate and environmental
studies.
- Innovative GPS applications, including miniaturised integrated GPS system, GPS mobile mapping and emergency services, attitude determination of moving platform and spacecraft, sensors/communication/ interface integration with GPS, and GNSS applications for meteorology and climatology.
- Algorithm developments, including network-based RTK,
point-RTK, precise point positioning, and GPS orbit improvement; GNSS simulation.
- Conventional GPS applications using CORS networks, including geohazard monitoring/prediction using GPS, GIS and other hi-technologies.
Geodesy/Surveying
- Time variations of the Earth's gravity field, its theory and applications including crustal deformation,
geodynamics, subsidence of earth's physical surface, plate tectonic movement and its geodynamic process through geodetic methods;
- GPS for delicated gravity field missions (eg CHAMP, GRACE and GOCE), including the Earth's gravity field derived from satellite altimetry, airborne/gradient gravimetry, oceanography, VLBI and SLR
space techniques; sea level monitoring;
- Time variations of the Earth's rotation, polar motion, nutation and precession, time and frequency etc. geodynamics related studies;
and
- Geophysical inversion and interpretation of gravity and geoid; and Physical geodesy-related theoretical and practical studies such as Earth's gravity field modelling, precise geoid determination and terrain effect, spectral and fractal analyses.
